Stay at Vancouver's Top Hotels For 30% Less

The winter Olympics are over, but sports fans are sticking to Vancouver, as some of its best hotels are offering great deals. Both the new Fairmont Pacific Rim and the Pan Pacific Vancouver have rooms going for 30% less right now.

Open since March 1, special rates at the Fairmont Pacific Rim represent a 33% savings off the summer rates, which will start at 383 CAD (375 USD) for a standard room. Now, though, you can get standard rooms for 254 CAD per night, or 248 USD, including all taxes and fees. (Note: We tested for the weekend of March 26; rates will fluctuate depending on availability.) The property has a spiffy design, built from the ground up, right on the water, says senior assistant editor Mollie Chen, who visited recently, and “rooms have organic-luxe feel, with taupes, olive greens, and great extras like flat screens in the bathrooms and Miller Harris bathroom products.” It’s also walking distance from the super-hip, restaurant-heavy Gastown area.

At the Pan Pacific Vancouver, which has been on our Gold List since 2005, you can get a third night free until April 29. We test-booked the weekend of March 26 and got 30% off. It's not exactly one-third off because rates vary each night on the weekend: For a Deluxe City View room, the standard category, you'd pay 290 CAD (284 USD) on Friday night and 267 CAD (261 USD) on Saturday night, avoiding the 244 CAD (239 USD) Sunday night fee; that's 557 CAD (545 USD) total instead of 801 CAD (784 USD), including all taxes and fees. That's enough saved to book a post-ski massage at the hotel's Spa Utopia.

Get The Second or Third Night Free at the St. Regis, Mexico City

If you've ever thought about splurging on a stay at one of the 20 luxurious St. Regis properties around the world, now here's your chance to do so with less of a dent to your wallet. One of its newest properties, the St. Regis, Mexico City, which opened in October 2009, has two separate offers from now through June 2010 that can save you 33-45%. The 31-story hotel is located on Paseo de la Reforma, steps from the Angel of Independence monument, and near Chapultepec Park. As with other St. Regis hotels and resorts, this one has 24-hour butler service.

The Third Night Complimentary promotion is good for arrival from Sunday through Wednesday. The room must be prepaid for all nights of the stay, with the free night credited at check-out. For a stay of three nights in a Deluxe King room in mid-April, the price with taxes rung up to $1,554, but once the free night was included, the total dropped to $1,036 (about $345 per night), a savings of 33%.

Travelers receive an even bigger windfall with the hotel's Second Night Complimentary on Weekends package. Here, guests arriving Thursday through Saturday pay for the first night, and get the second one free (again, all nights must be prepaid, and the free night is applied at check out). We test-booked an Executive Suite for two nights, with complimentary breakfast, on a weekend at the end of May; the total cost came to $856, or $428 per night (including taxes). Once the amount for the free night was deducted from the calculation, the room total dropped to $428, or $214 a night. When pricing the cheapest available room a few days later—a Deluxe King room—we couldn't find it for less than $386 per night; so the weekend rate represents a discount of 45% and comes with a higher category of accommodation.

The flooding in Peru’s Sacred Valley in late January 2010 and earlier this month resulted in the closure (until April 2010) of the country's iconic sites of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail. Understandably many visitors want to include the UNESCO World Heritage sites in their itineraries, but if you're open to seeing other parts of the country then now is a great time to do so, as prices have come down. You may not equate Comfort Suites or Sleep Inns with luxury, perhaps, but the properties that make up its stable are reliable and certainly are easier on the wallet. Back in October, we told you about the Better Tomorrows offer that Starwood Hotels was rolling out on some Maui properties whereby guests could get 50% off every second night stayed. The offer had some restrictions: The non-discounted nights cost the full, unrestricted rate, and guests had to book a four-night minimum (in which case nights two and four were 50% off), and travel had to be completed by December 23, 2009. Starwood has now given the Better Tomorrows deal a new lease, extending it through the end of 2010, adding scores of properties throughout North and South America, and reducing the minimum stay to as few as two nights. To take advantage of this deal, travelers must check in on specific days of the week—this varies from property to property, but is usually on weekends at hotels, and during the week at resorts. There is no single list of the hotels that are taking part in the promotion, though destinations include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, the United States, and some islands in the Caribbean.

We test-booked a two-night stay in mid-March in a King room at the W New York—Union Square, in New York City. When checking in on a Monday, one of the days excluded from the promotion, the two nights cost $830, including taxes. For the same room, staying Friday and Saturday nights (when the Better Tomorrows deal kicks), the room cost $639, a saving of 23%. At the Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center, in Lima, Peru, two weekday nights in a King room on a Club Floor in early November came in at $539, but under the promotion, for the following weekend, the same accommodations cost $404, or 25% less. The Better Tomorrows deal is already looking better today.

When we Dealers caught word of this third night free deal from fifteen hotels—ranging from B&Bs to a luxury resort—in Half Moon Bay, a series of emails erupted over what a lovely town it is. A Week of $50 Spa Treatments Nationwide

Indulge in a massage at Allegria spa at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek, Colorado, for a fraction of the usual cost.

The best full-body, exfoliating, oily (in a good way), relaxing spa treatments can come at a hefty price. (Only when I'm stressed to the point of craziness do I cave, throwing $300 at a fix for my neck tension.) Come this March, though, there will be no need for such excess: SpaFinder will run a week of $50 deals at spas all over the country from March 8-14.

The full roster of participating spas isn't available yet, but we got a sneak peak at the working list, which includes both day spas and resort spas from San Francisco to Atlanta to New York. Two properties our editors love, The Emerson Resort & Spa in the Catskills and Allegria at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek, are on board. Fellow Dealer Julia Bainbridge names the Maldives as her dream destination in her Jauntsetter of the week interview. Her dream stay? The Shangri-La Villingili, which opened last summer and is one of the top resorts in the Maldives—quite an honor in a place with no shortage of ultra-luxury resorts. It's on one of the largest islands in the archipelago (great for those looking for more space and activities than most resorts offer), and all accommodations are in individual "villas," the smallest measuring 1,400 square feet.

Lindsey Wallace, the Maldives travel specialist on our annual list of Condé Nast Traveler's top travel specialists, has negotiated some truly amazing special rates at this resort. A pool villa (the lowest room category) will normally run you $1,336 per night (double occupancy, including taxes and service charges); Wallace can get you the same thing for $515...and a complimentary upgrade to a water villa if available, which he loves for their direct access to the gorgeous lagoon. Those over-water lodgings usually go for $1,776 per night, so his rate saves you over 70%. The best deal, though, is the rate he's negotiated for a "tree house villa"—these ultra-private, 2,350-square-foot hideaways ordinarily cost $3,096 per night, but just $598 through Wallace: a discount of over 80%.

What makes this deal even more impressive is that these special prices are offered during high season: February and March are the best months to visit the Maldives, Wallace says, because there's almost no rain and the seas are calm, making for great diving.

Do note that to reach the resort you need to take a domestic flight from Malé and then a brief speedboat ride. Roundtrip transfers are $330 per person.

Arrabelle at Vail Square, Colorado

Over Valentine's Day weekend (which this year also coincides with Presidents Day weekend), package prices are pretty high: You pay $2,295 (including taxes and fees) for a two-night stay in a superior room at this RockResort, one 80-minute couples massage, a tubing session at Adventure Ridge, breakfast daily at Tavern on the Square, and, of course, champagne. Still, you're saving about 30%, because outside of the package you'd pay $3,311 for the room and all these extras. Good thing, though, that you can book the package through March, when you'll pay $1,021 instead of $1,368, a savings of 25%.

Get A Free Companion Ticket to Barbados on American Airlines

Given the unpredictable weather that we've been experiencing throughout the country, we should be forgiven for letting our minds wander to images of warm, sunny shores. Just in time, American Airlines Vacations has teamed up with the Barbados Tourism Authority to launch a Companion Flies Free offer that could make those images more than just wishful thinking. The promotion, which started on January 11, 2010, has recently been extended through February 12, 2010, and offers travelers one free, economy class companion ticket when two travelers fly together and book a minimum of four nights at a hotel in Barbados through AA Vacations from now through May 31, 2010.

The easternmost island in the Caribbean, served by direct AA flights from Miami, New York, and San Juan, Barbados is far enough south that its waters remain a constant 78 degrees Fahrenheit year round. The island's calmest beaches are on the west coast, also known at the Platinum Coast, filled with tony resorts, sugary sand, and classic placid Caribbean waters (stay away from the rocky east coast, pounded by waves, unless you're a surfer). The best beaches are found in the three western parishes of St. James, St. Michael, and St. Peter.

We checked out the Companion Flies Free offer at a few different hotels around the island, and found that the savings vary depending on destinations and dates. In St. Michael's parish, we tallied up a 23% savings through the package promotion when test-booking a four-night stay at the end of February at the Hilton Barbados, ten minutes south of Barbados' capital Bridgetown: AIrfare for two from New York, plus four nights in a Bayview Room costs $1,702, or $851 per person. Reserving the flights and hotel separately, the best we could get was $770 for two tickets, and $1,429 for the room (a total of $2,199), so the package costs 23% less.

However at Treasure Beach Hotel, in St. James, airfare for two from New York in late April plus a Garden View Suite with continental breakfast comes to a total of $1,930, or $965 per person, (including taxes, fees, and service charges, and a highlighted discount of $329). When booked independently, using the cheapest airfare available online, and booked the same room directly through the hotel, the total came to $2,095, so the promotion represents a savings of a mere 8%.

Dates: Travel is valid from now through May 31, 2010, but must be booked no later than February 12, 2010.

How to book: Go to the American Airlines Vacation site and use the promotion code BGI50 if it is not preloaded. When booking the package, the prices of the airfare and hotel aren't separated, so it is impossible to see precisely where the savings are made. But when the package is priced out, a line in the calculation displays the airline discount. Note that the companion free ticket is the base fare for the ticket, so taxes and fees must be paid (they are included in to the final package price).

Stay Weekends for 30% Less at Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York City

The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, in Washington D.C., is a National Historic Landmark, and it's got a prime spot on the banks of the Potomac.

Weekend stays at four swank Ritz-Carlton hotels in Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York are going for over a third less if you book by January 23 (that's tomorrow!). This 72-hour sale went live on Wednesday, but we found that there's still good availability, believe it or not.

On second thought, believe it: In Boston, you can book a city-view room from February 19-21 (two nights) for $456, including all taxes and fees. Normal weekend rates for this room are $744, so you're saving 39%. D.C.'s Georgetown Ritz-Carlton is a little more expensive, but you're still saving: On those same dates, you can stay in a Large Premier Room for $662 total, including taxes and fees. We discovered a handful of other promotions going on at this property when we test-booked, but none was as good as this 72-hour discount. The best was $914 for the weekend, so you're saving 28% off that price—and much more of the normal rates. This just goes to show you shouldn't discount a limited time sale, even if it's been on offer for a while.

Cap Juluca's villa-style accommodations frame the white-sand beach fronting Maundays Bay on Anguilla

Great high-season deals from the Caribbean's top properties keep rolling in. Two weeks ago we told you about Two-Rooms-For-The-Price-Of-One special at Malliouhana, on Anguilla. The latest on this island ringed by white-sand beaches: Cap Juluca, on Maundays Bay, is offering a "One More Night" package—pay for three nights and get a fourth night free, or pay for five nights and get your sixth and seventh nights free.

The deal applies to the lower room categories (Oceanfront Superior Rooms, Luxury
Rooms, and Junior Suites). This time of year a four-night stay in a Superior Room ordinarily costs $4,776 (including tax and service charges), or $1,194 per night. With this One More Night deal, the four nights cost $3,589, or $897 per night. That's a 25% savings.

We know the price tag still seems steep, but keep in mind that it's unusual to see a full resort of this caliber offering a good deal like this during high season. Cap Juluca is a perennial entry on Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List for its five-star restaurants and mile-long white-sand beach. And those prices seem a bit more reasonable when you consider all the complimentary amenities such as breakfast and afternoon tea, tennis clinics, all water activities...the list goes on.

Dates: For travel through the end of January, and March 1 through April 4.

Three weeks ago it started a new weekly Private Sale with dramatically reduced room rates for its members. The sale starts every Tuesday at 10AM EST and is live for two days only. So how deep are the discounts? This week's sale includes The Standard, Miami;
We test-booked a three-night stay February 21-24 and were able to get a Dry (large) Room for $708.51 (including taxes). Normal rates are $1,013.61, so this represents a savings of 30%.

Other hotels offering similar discounts through this Thursday are the Relais Christine in Paris, France; The Hudson in New York City; The Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, California; and the Aleenta Resort & Spa in Phuket, Thailand.
