European skiing has never been cheap, but softness in the seasonal Swiss hotel market means some deals are available right now—but we won't have space to run them in our January issue, which we're putting the finishing touches on now.
At the Grand Hotel Zermatthof in the shadow of the Matterhorn, ski packages make for excellent value. The Gold List property has a three-night deal offering lift tickets, rentals, some meals, and free spa access for just a few francs more than room-only rates, December 3-17 and January 9-February 11. A seven-night special includes free skiing and rentals—and knocks 20 percent off the per-night price, January 8-29. And the iconic Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St. Moritz hasn’t been able to raise rates since last season—even though the property has completed a total renovation of the pool and spa.
