If you're at all interested in trying one of the growing number of European river cruises, a few new deals from Exeter International provide fantastic value on multiple sailings on the Volga River between Moscow and St. Petersburg this summer.
Prices for 10-night "Simply Volga Dream" departures start at just $2,700 per person, a substantial discount over the usual cost of Exeter's trips on this vessel. What's not included on this itinerary, though, is important: rather than staying in five-star hotels while in Moscow and St. Petersburg, guests sleep aboard the ship on these trips. If staying in a centrally located hotel is important to you, the "Volga Values" trips are a better play and start at $3,750 per person. These 11-night sailings also include two nights at the Hotel Savoy in Moscow and two nights at the Hotel Angleterre in St. Petersburg.
This special came to us from one of Wendy Perrin's well-connected travel specialists, Gwen Kozlowski at Exeter International, who's an expert in Eastern European travel and reports that these sailings offer "huge discount[s]" over the usual rates for trips on the Volga Dream, which typically start at $7,250 per person for 12-night trips. For guests willing to forego the ordinarily included Exeter "Extraordinary Experiences" like private access to the treasury vaults under Catherine Palace and storage chambers of the Hermitage Museum, as well as two nights at Moscow's Ritz-Carlton, these sailings offer value-priced access to an excellent ship sailing one of Europe's great rivers.
Gwen has all the details on the ship's various cabin types, and keep in mind that airfare to Russia isn't included in this price. You'll also need to allow three or four weeks for visa processing, which Exeter can arrange at $250 per person.
