The lobby at The James hotel, in Chicago, has a partnership with local gallery Monique Meloche. The installation “Room 28”, by Chicago-based artist Joel Ross, comprises a stack of vintage suitcases.Sure winter in Chicago is chilly, and yes, we know it's not the peak time for most of us to experience the Windy City (fans of the cold notwithstanding), but this is the time of year that hotels in Obama's home town heavily discount rates. Of the many deals out there, here's one we especially like.
The James, a stylishly relaxed 297-room hotel a block from the shopping and dining on the Magnificent Mile, and which has a full-service spa, has partnered with Travelzoo to offer rooms at $149 (after taxes), and this includes either free valet parking (usually costing $50), or a $50 food and beverage credit that can be used at the hotel's David Burke's Primehouse (it made our 2007 Hot Tables), the clubby JBar, or even for room service. The offer is good for stays through March 31, 2010.
We tried some dates in February and March and snagged the advertised $129 rates ($149 after taxes) for a King guestroom. The best rate offered without the promotion is $160 (after taxes); once the $50 credit on the promotion is factored in, the special rate represents savings of 38%, which should make the icy temps a whole lot more bearable.
Dates: Book by January 15, 2010 for stays through March 31, 2010.
How to book: Call 877-526-3755 or book online. To choose the free valet parking promotion, use promo code TZOOPARK. To choose the $50 food and beverage credit, use the promo code TZOODBP.
Condé Nast Traveler approved: The James Hotel appeared on the 2007 Hot List.
