Save 30% on Business Class Fares to Asia on Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific isn't one to slash its transpacific business class fares often, so when we came across this current business class sale out of New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, we checked with business travel expert Joe Brancatelli of joesentme.com, to find out his take on the lower fares.

His response: "Not everything is a good deal even inside an offer that is a good bargain." Brancatelli pointed out that the flights from San Francisco are the best deal, followed by the flights from Los Angeles. "Cathay is clearly doing a little better out of Los Angeles, hence the higher price. And the New York prices just aren't that competitive, frankly."

Thanks to Joe's advice, we honed in on the San Francisco-originating business class fares, and found a roundtrip business class fare to Hong Kong December 12-19 for $4,660 (including taxes and fees), compared to the lowest flexible business class fare of $6,600 (all prices include taxes and fees)-a 30% savings.

To connect via Hong Kong to nine other cities will cost anywhere from a couple of hundred to about a thousand dollars more. From San Francisco to Shanghai December 13-20, we found a business class fare for $4,881, compared to the lowest flexible business class fare of $6,890 (all prices include taxes and fees).

Dates: Book by December 31, 2009

How to book: This is an online sale, so book directly through the Cathay Pacfic promotion's Web site.
