The new Hotel Palomar is the first LEED-registered hotel in Philadelphia. And it's not only eco-friendly—the property allows pets, too.
Philadelphia has its fair share of upscale hotels, but, curiously, it has lacked a modern, design-oriented hotel that are now commonplace in so many other urban centers.
Enter the Hotel Palomar, Kimpton Hotels' first hotel in Philadelphia—and also the city's first LEED-certified one, at that. The hotel, the former the Architects Building on Samson and 17th Streets, opened just last Thursday, and is offering discounted introductory room rates that can save you 33% for stays through February, 2010.
The promotion offers lets you choose either breakfast or parking with the discounted room rate. Once on the promotion's Web site, click "Dine, and you'll pay $137 per night for a room with a queen bed and daily Continental breakfast for two. Click "Park" and you'll pay $149 for a queen bed and parking (prices include taxes and fees). Normally, the room goes for $206 (including taxes and fees); parking alone is around $43 per night.
There's not a lot of availability in the coming two months, but come January or February, there are more options. If you can bear the cold, that is. Then again, why would you need to? The hotel, located in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood, is walking distance from a handful of great restaurants you can tuck yourself into, including Barclay Prime, Le Bec-Fin, Butcher and Singer, and Tinto, which was a Condé Nast Traveler Hot Table in 2008. (And with the money you saved, you can go for the extra bottle of wine.) And of course the hotel has its own restaurant, Square 1682. A tip: Say "bubbly" to your server from now through November 30, 2009 and they'll give you a free glass of champagne.
Dates: Book by October 30, 2009 for stays Thursday through Sunday nights through February 28, 2010.
