If the encroaching cold weather has you dreaming of a warm vacation far, far away, check this out: Air Tahiti Nui is offering round-trip flights between LAX and Papeete, Tahiti for $738 (including taxes and fees). Fares typically run around $1,450, so this represents a savings of almost 50%.
What's the catch, you ask? This low fare requires a four-night maximum stay in the islands of Tahiti, which include Moorea, Bora Bora, and Huahine—essentially a long-haul long-weekend. Kleon Howe, the French Polynesia travel specialist who notified us of this airfare deal, offers this tip for maximizing your island(s) time: If you fly on the red-eye (which is only available on certain days; the flight takes around eight hours), then you wouldn't have to count that night flying as long as you land after 12:01A.M.
Dates: Book by November 4, 2009 for travel from November 13 through December 14, 2009, and from January 12 through March 31, 2010.
How to book: If you're booking flights only, buy them directly through Air Tahiti Nui. If you want an entire itinerary, hotels included, we recommend that you call Kleon Howe, the French Polynesia specialist in our annual list of the world's top travel specialists. He can get the same airfare as above, incorporate other great deals on offer from the islands' hotels and resorts, and is also full of tips and tricks for maximizing your brief time on-island.
