Big deal: You can stay in one of the Hotel Kurá Hulanda's restored historic buildings for as low as $135 per night.
If you've been following Deal of the Day over the past few weeks, no doubt you've noticed that the Caribbean and Atlantic islands are currently chock-a-block with fall and winter savings. Curacao, part of the Netherlands Antilles, is the latest island to catch our eye with its wide-reaching "Curacao Now" promotion: 19 hotels in a range of price points are offering a fifth night free plus $200 airfare credits, $200 food and beverage credits, and a slew of other discounts.
Here's a breakdown of the savings we especially like at two hotels:
(1) The Hotel Kurá Hulanda Spa & Casino, a Gold List property in Willemstad that Condé Nast Traveler features editor Alison Humes praises for being "beautiful and unique; a restoration of old buildings around a courtyard where you can sit and have coffee, and which is right next to a museum on slavery." We had to confirm prices at the hotel three separate times because the discount seemed too big to believe. You can nab a standard room for an amazing $674, including all taxes and fees. (We test booked for October 14-19, 2009). Normally five nights in this room would cost $1,547, so you're saving a whopping 56%. And don't forget about the $200 food and beverage credit and $200 per person airfare credit.
(2) At the new Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino, you can book a standard room for five nights in mid-October for $1,446 (price includes all taxes and fees). That breaks down to $289 per night, and comes with a free day of car rental, one free shore or boat dive, and other discounts. Your $200 food and beverage credit comes in the form of daily breakfast for two.
Note: The Renaissance Curacao Resort is also offering a grand opening rate of $196 per night, but you can't apply that promotional rate to the Curacao Now fifth-night free deal. When you consider the airfare and dining credits, Curacao Now ends up saving you more for five nights.
Dates: Book and travel by December 15, 2009. Some properties have blackout dates.
How to book: Mention "Curacao Now" when booking at the participating hotels. To receive the $200 per person airfare credit, go to the Curacao Now Web site, click on the "Download Airfare Rebate" section in the top-right corner of the page, and follow the instructions on filling out the credit form.
Note: Prices and credits vary depending on the hotel, car rental company, et cetera. So, it takes some research to find out what you get, but it's worth it. Just make sure to mention "Curacao Now."
